What A Crazy Couple of Months!

So.... I tried blogging about this a few weeks ago, but Blogger hated me and autosaved after I had accidently deleted half of the VERY long post I was working on, frustrated i decided it was best to go audio/visual on it, and cast and post photos instead!

My last couple of months have included:

- 2 Regina Spektor concerts in a week, in 2 countries.

- 3 day Electric Picnic music festival (Bjork, Rilo Kiley, Beastie Boys ....), bumped into Jonathan Rhys Myers, my fellow Corkonian, and he is sooooo beautiful! It was hard not to melt, with his arm around me *sigh*

- Knee surgery and 3 days in hospital (ACL reconstruction)

- Getting my BSc degree in Physics and starting my honours year.

- Cork Film Fest 2007 (21 screenings in 6 days hehe!)

- Returning to nerdom.

- Concerts : New Young Pony Club (met them after!), The Fray and The Buena Vista Social Club.

- Physio and more physio!

So yes, I suck at posting regularly. You'd think with the summer I'd have more time to do it, but alas I still procrastinate, that and like 3 people read this, one being me! But I thought I'd share some Regina Spektor brilliance. I'm seeing her on the 30th August (Dublin) and Sept 7th (London) and am so excited, I can't even explain.

And RE: the tagging thingy, I have a cast recorded with a buddie and it shall be up in a bit, some transcontinental editing and all that is required, but it is on the way. :)

SUMMER

Yay, summer is finally here. Exams are over, concerts and festivals and more await! So it's gonna be hard to top last summer, that's for sure, but I think it might just happen. Last summer was amazing, this one may just be EPIC, for a multitude of reasons!

You may be wondering why there's a photo of a plane above, ya I had a flying lesson today and was flying that sucker right there, so much fun! In other news, I'm crutchless and back on my foot, er, feet. Putting off the big fuck on surgery til after the summer, so I can enjoy it (the summer that is, no one enjoys surgery.)

Right now I have 10 days to finish redoing my room, which is ambitious to say the least, in particular, due to the fact that I'm distracting myself with music, reading and Criminal Minds, and ignoring the mess I've created, trying to start the room transformation, haha.

My birthday is next week, not sure yet if there will be celebrations, or even a drunken podcast like last year, all I know is, it's my mum's bday the same day and she wants a new dictionary (WTF?) ya I dunno either, I just nodded and said ok. I don't ask questions anymore, it leads to annoyed mum!

So ya there's my life update, May was shitty, for reasons I won't get into, but June is and will continue, to kick major ass!

I am sooooo fucking there!!!

I can honestly say that Faithless' gig in London in June '05 in Alexandra Palace (front row centre, BOOYA!!) will probably be one of the best concerts I'll ever attend. The 6 minutes of the song Insomnia were pure euphoria. I am so fucking excited to see them for the third time in June. They are playing the Marquee here in Cork, 5 min from my house (let's put it this way, I could feel the bass from Kanye West last summer, it's that close.... FUCKIN' A!)

I'm posting some clips of the show the night after the gig I went to in 05, that they released on dvd, same venue and everything, so it's practically the same show I saw, and I'll post some video clips too.

Their sound may not be what you'd expect from me, but I LOVE them and while their recorded stuff sounds synthesised, they actually play with a full live band, and have 2 percussion sets. They are by far one of the best live bands I've seen to date, and are much better live than recorded in my opinion. Anyone who likes good beats and wicked bass, will like them!

And yes the chick on percussion in the cowboy hat is fucking HOT!

A Whole Year Since Blog Post #1

1) That year FLEW by!

2) What an awesome fucking year!

3) Roll on the Summer....Regina!

Now most people would celebrate there blog bday with a wicked awesome post......I however celebrated with knee surgery, YAY!!

I joked to my mum about how they mark your leg when being amputated, to make sure they do the correct leg......ya 30 seconds later my doc arrived and drew an ARROW on my shin, LMAO!!! And yes I do have SUPER white legs, I AM irish after all, people! (you can see my knee is swollen before surgery, it has been for nearly 5 months now, it's even more so now!)

So ya this last year has been nothing short of unbelievable for me, in no particular order there was:

-KELKA and the birth of our wonderful kelkian blogverse
-Podcasting
-Came out to my best friend, my mum and a handful of others
-Made some of the greatest friends ever, you know who you are :)
-The awesomeness that was late night/early morning Skype, I think my record is 18hrs straight....
-2 of the greatest trips I'll ever have, Italy solo in Sept and Cali in Dec/Jan, what fucking brilliant fun
-Setting a new record for the hours I've been awake, that is 56 hours (which was staying up all night before flying to LA, and then being up til the weee hours after arriving...)
-The L Word Convention and meeting Kate, Leisha, Laurel, Mia and Guin more times than I can count...
-CERN trip to Geneva with my college peeps, despite being on crutches!
-Not working for the last nearly 5 months, which has been a wonderful break having worked solidly for the last 6 years or so!
-Electric Picnic...Massive Attack, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Basement Jaxx....and meeting the lads from BSS again and getting them to sign my iPod.
-So much fucking mindblowingly brilliant music, that I feared my desktop, laptop and iPod would actually try to strangle me (new 500gb is on the way, thank jeebus!)

There were lows too and stuff I'd rather forget, but honestly the positive waaaaaaay out does the negative!!

Here's hoping the next year is equally as good, if not better!

Life Update & April Chill Mix

Where to begin, oy... let's start with the best news first:

Knee Surgery next Tuesday FUCKIN' A!!!!

BJöRK is playing Electric Picnic here and I'ma going!

So ya, lots has been happening in the last few weeks. Lectures are finished til the end of Sept, BOOYA, so April is free for study, then a month of exams in May. I finally met my surgeon after 12 weeks on crutches. He's awesome and is doing my surgery on his day off so I don't have to wait til June, YAY. So ya weird to be happy about knee surgery, but having spent all of 2007 on crutches, I'm hella anxious to get walking again. This is the first of 2 surgeries, this being the small lickle one and the bigger cruciate reconstruction to happen at a later date (hopefully a negotiable date since I'm hoping to go to Lolla in Chicago in Aug and Electric Picnic in Sept!).

Was in Geneva last week for 4 days with my college buds, on a society trip visiting CERN (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire), basically the world's biggest particle physics lab...I won't go into their awesomeness but let's put it this way THE INTERNET STARTED THERE in the early 90s so they could analyse experimental data between physicists in different locations. www.cern.ch They are gonna be sorta recreating the Big Bang, particle wise late next year in the new LHC collider. It was like physics Disneyland..... So that was a great few days of chillin', drinking, shopping and I had to speak some french, damn it!

So yes Electric Picnic that I went on and on and on about last summer, has announced it's initial line-up and with one word.....BJöRK, I was like "I'ma going crutches or no!". Of course they had to release the tickets the morning I was going to Geneva and had no internet, but thanks to my awesome bud :) I got my ticket, FUCK YEAH! It's gonna be the shit: Björk, The Go! Team, LCD Soundsystem, Beastie Boys, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Ladytron, Jamie Lidelll, The Polyphonic Spree, Horance Andy, Craig Armstrong, !!!, Sonic Youth, The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain and sooooo many more awesome performers, YAY!!

Also provided I'ma walking by August, I'm heading to Lollapalooza and one word REGINA!! Yup yup the magnificent Ms. Spektor is playing, as are Daft Punk, Muse, Snow Patrol, Fratellis and heaps more awesome bands! The line-up, announced today, isn't as fab as last year, IMO, but still Regina and Daft Punk and some of my buds there too, how can I not go hehe! The 2 bands I NEEEEED to see that aren't currently scheduled for Lolla or EP (yet) are Death Cab and Metric, fingers crossed they will play somewhere near soon or there may be global stalking required!

June/July is also gonna be super fantastic, hehe!! :D

Ok so I made a mix, I'm hoping to do a joint podcast in the not too distant future too, so any Qs, musings or whatev, send them in! Second Best Week of 2007

(so far)

What a feckin' brill week, second only to my week in Cali in January!!

You know days where you get good sleep, lots of little things done and moments of pure hilarity and fun, ya, I just had a week of that, and it was fab.

And well today, my friend gave me a small plastic cat, coz well ya, she's wonderfully random. So instead of 'actually' doing the lab I had come in on my day off to do, I decided to take pictures of the cat with various lab equipment and around campus.....this demonstrates how when I'm bored, weird stuff happens. And well this was less dangerous than the last time we got bored in a lab and decided to have a competition to see how long we could each keep our hand in a huge bucket of ice (which resulted in mild hypothermia for the winning time of 14 min :D ) or was it when we tried hitting people outside with a laser, ah well one or the other!

So here are some pics of the cat, we've called 'Schrodinger's Cat' the real geeks amoung you will know the obscure reference, and for that you are loved. It was a beautiful day so I took a bunch of non cat related pics of the campus too, hope you like!

Music Moods

Right, so anyone who knows me, knows I am a huge music fan, period. And while I listen to a huge huge range of music, there are still only a select few groups or bands that I would go, without hesitation, to buy their new album the day it's released. If I'm prone to this practice with a band or artist then I consider them a favourite. My oldest and probably dearest of these favourites would have to be Björk. However I have tendencies to not listen to her for months and months even up to a year, but the other day I happened to start talking about her since she has a new album being released in late Spring and fingers crossed will be playing Electric Picnic here in Sept. And as happpens online, you get something in your head and suddenly you're on YouTube for 3 hours. This is what happened to me the other day and watching clips from the gigs in the Royal Opera House in London for her Vespertine Tour and Cambridge for the Homogenic tour, rekindled my love of those 2 albums in particular and brought back the fantastic memories of seeing her live. Homogenic is my favourite album of all time, it contains my favourite song of all time and my favourite version of that song is on the dvd for the Cambridge gig, so I'll def post that here. But the Royal Opera House concert in 2001 is THE concert that started me on my music mission to see any of my favourite bands live if they are within the confinds of say Ireland, the UK or even Paris. My parents wouldn't let me go to London for it at 17 by myself, so I missed the opportunity to see Björk play with full orchestra, Inuit, hand picked choir from Greenland, Matmos and Zeena Parkins in the infamous Royal Opera House, it pissed me off to no end. So since then anyone I like that I can see, I do. And the number so far, I think, going by the list on myspace, is over 80 in the last 3 years mainly, involving trips to London, Paris, Dublin many many times, Kerry, and then fests.

Right now on crutches, I am cursing missing Regina Spektor, Metric, Faithless, The Buena Vista Social Club, The Rapture, The Fratellis, Madeleine Peyroux, Incubus, Rise Against, Corinne Bailey Rae, The Shins, The Sounds and a few more, who played or are playing the UK or Ireland lately. As soon as I'm back walking, I will make up for this TRUST ME, there is only so long I can go without a concert!!

So I'm in a Death Cab, Björk, Keane, Snow Patrol, Bell X1 kinda mood this weekend, and well Björk to those that don't know her (and most who know her music, invariably end up loving her) have a perception of her that she screams a lot or is just bizarre, She is 'eccentric' shall we say but the thing about her is that her music is not categorisable, every album is completely different, representing a certain mood or story or a version of who she is at the time it's made. It's always extremely personal, full of emotion, never depressing, full of layers and complexity but at the same time clean and precise, and she always collaborates with fantastic musicians. So as a little insight into her greatness and some of my personal favourite song performances, I've posted some video of those gigs I mentioned, hope you like!

R.I.P. The Bodega, Cork

My all time favourite pub :(

So I'm not much of a regular blogger, but I was compelled to blog today, compelled I tell you! I literally just found out that my favourite pub of all time, the Bodega is closing after tonight and being turned into fucking shops. And I, in my sick (headcold) crippled state can't go, my Bodega going peeps are in no particular order - sick, in Wales, in Dublin and generally not able to go and well it wouldn't be the same without the whole gang.

SOOOO PISSED. :(

The Irish Times called it "Ireland's most beautiful bar, " and it's absolutely true, with it's wonderful high ceiling, gorgeous understated decor, local artists prints and paintings on the walls, giant mirrors, the comfy couches my friends and I used to go into town early to secure, the FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC music, and you know how I am about my music, I mean the DJs were the shit upstairs, the cd player stuff that the staff played in the afternoons and evenings was fuckin' A too and I mean live jazz too, oy. The staff were lovely, friendly, generous with shot dispensing (mmm giant Baileys) and they were hot too, guys and girls. It was pretty much an unofficial gay bar too, in that a huge proportion of the clientele were gay or bi and the atomosphere was very chilled with a kinda indie/boho/alternative customer crowd. No posers, or wankers or loud brainless bitches, just really down to earth, chilled peeps there for good conversation, good music, drinks and craic! And in Ireland pubs are the equivalent of coffee shops/cafés in the US, i.e. it's where we chill and hang out and have coffee actually, lol.

Sooo many great memories from there, drunken convos with 4 of us in a toilet cubicle, many many birthdays, drunken singing, flirting with the staff, xmas - how did they physically get that giant xmas tree inside?!!, I had a coming out there which resulted in the other person saying "ya me too"

The hunt for a new haunt is on already, we have a list of pubs, a list of requirements (plenty wood, good music but not too loud so you can have a conversation, no wankers, good stout, they must sell Kopparburg (my drink), and we have devised a time frame and plan of action. Our hope is that we find our new fav by the end of the college term, thus meaning we actualy accomplished something in 3rd year!

If you have a favourite hang out, pub/club/coffeehouse, treasure it while it's still around, coz it hurts like hell when it's gone!!

The Cripple Lives

Right so, I am still alive. My blog however, that’s another story. I guess you could say it’s been hibernating for a couple of months over the winter, while I have been super busy. So ya, December brought xmas, concerts and work and more work in order to finance xmas and my trip to the US in late Dec. Oh and I came out to my mum in December too, lol, wow I really was busy looking back. Her initial reaction (while continuing to iron) was “well I always knew you were eccentric!” and she went on to iron and listen to me intently but was like “You seem uptight about this, relax.” :D Ya so it went well, it was more that I needed to tell her, than her needing to know really, coz it’s no big deal and I knew that. I was expecting some questions on my return from the US but there were none, about the bi-ness that is. Oh ya, I was in the US, California to be more exact. It was my first time in the US actually and the furthest in kilometres and time that I’ve travelled. Spent the best 11 days ever with my buddies, whom I love to pieces! We even went to the L Word Premiere Party in LA. I had the greatest trip ever, seriously and it was really sad going home.

Right now I’m back to college, oy. I do have Fridays free of lectures which makes every weekend a 3 day weekend, YAY! Only problem is I’m on crutches. 2 years ago skiing I had a fall and my skis, which were supposed to come off in the event of an accident, didn’t, and then crossed, so if you can imagine your legs going in an inverted V, my left leg going left and right going right….so I dove into the snow to prevent myself from breaking a knee or leg, but I dove right and my left knee took all the force of the fall, and twisted badly. I was grand the day after though and skied the rest of the week. A few times since my knee has locked but I had managed to walk it off. That is til I was clubbing in WeHo after the S4 Prem Party and it locked again but this time it stuck and I couldn’t walk. So I have a piece of torn cartilage floating around my knee and am more than likely going to be having keyhole surgery. All going well I’ll be fine in a few weeks after surgery but I may have done damage to my ACL. I’ll know in the next week or so what the story is, my MRI results will be back soon. In the meantime I’m enduring super painful, yet affective, physio. I can’t work til I can walk, so I’m pretty broke and hence bored being indoors lots, though thank god for the internet and msn, or I might actually go insane, there was a close call last week when I got so bored I started tidying my room, def a sign of insanity in me, so I was like “I need a dvd, a podcast, a download something to distract me….” so I started watching Ab Fab, hehehe!

So I’ve been watching a lot of TV shows, The L Word (which I’m loving!), Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes, Prison Break (which has gone to shit!), Bones, Nip/Tuck, Ab Fab, BSG, NCIS, Dexter, South Park….listening to plenty music as always, though I severely miss my iPod. I’m the type of person who walks EVERYWHERE, and when I walk I listen to my iPod. So now that I can’t walk, I can’t walk and listen to my iPod. :(

****L2-L Word Convention Updates****

Firstly, HOLY SHIT - 750+ gay girls in one place!!! And Leisha, Kate, Mia, Laurel and Guin Turner added to that mix too!!

FRIDAY

So ya the hotel rocks, free internet, fuck yeah and who doesnt like a telephone in the bathroom!

The first bit of news was that Guinevere Turner, number 1 is here and number 2 was at breakfast this morning and no one recognised her and she got a little pissed, lol!

Made friends while queueing for photo spots, yes yes shall be meeting Leisha at 1.45 tomorrow, saweeeeeeeeeeet! Gonna get a pic with her and Kate on sunday too,why not eh!

Oh ya and of the 3 people I was talking to in the queue, one has heard of Kelka! Oh and I meet 2 dublin chicks, more like recognised the accent!

And within the hour and half that was registration and queueing for photospots, I got hit on and asked out for a drink, mmm these chicks move fast, lol!!

Must run and grab something to eat before the opening ceremony and the party! I'll give updates as shit happens!

And biatches start saving now, there's gonna be an L3!!

PRAISE KELKA and the hotness of Leisha!

So the opening ceremony ended there about an hour ago...OMG OMG could Leisha have been any cuter...Kate was like super cool and really shy....Laurel was totally excited and pumped and guess what..she apologised for Tina's behaviour in S3 and said she's trying to find her way back to Bette, the place totally erupted!! I have to say Guin and Mia looked stunning and Adrienne Wilkinson as MC was very good!

So ya party's started, waiting for my buddies to return so we can go get some drinks!

I wonder if the L Word ladies will party it up, they tend to mingle at these things so it's not completely out of the realm of possibility!! It was so surreal seeing them in the flesh, but totally fantastic!

The hotel is like Hotel Lesbos...we've pretty much taken over the place, kinda like the scenes in the Dinah Shore episode actually, it's like a gay bomb went off and there are gay girls EvErYwHeRe!

Man we need a Kelka convention or for you all to come to this next year!

P.S. I have some video of Kate coming on stage, Leisha too and Laurel. I'll post them when I get back home next tuesday or so!

So heading back to my room to get my coat to go for a walk, I happened upon the greenroom, and while texting, a blue blob passed me. Um this blue blob was in fact LEISHA, which I realised after she was gone!! Then while talking to some girls, Laurel came out of the greenroom too and Leisha went back in! Leisha is much taller in heels than you'd think! So we were stoked and went downstairs to meet in the lobby to go for that walk (to find an off licence) so while we chatted about seeing them, guess who comes down the main entrance steps - Kate, Laurel, Leisha, Guin and Mia a little ahead of them, total luck that we were there. So we stepped to one side to let them pass, they stopped alongside us for a bit (I loved Leisha's coat and Laurel I have to say looked stunning!) So they headed outside, Mia got into a big SUV by herself and the others piled into a tiny Renault Megane, they so should have had a proper car for them!!

Saturday

So from the happenings of last night we went to check if the greenroom was still the same suite coz my friend is on steward duty there for 2 hrs today (saweeeeet I met the right peeps!) and it was.

So later I saw Laurel's husband and little girl Lola a couple of times. Then while chatting by the lifts, Guin stepped out looking confused and I gave her directions to the greenroom, LMAO! Then after a bit Laurel passed going into the greenroom coz her photo session was over. A little later all of them came out to head to the group photo session, we headed in the same direction back to the main hall and just as we passed the greenroom again, Mia came out behind me. When I went to stop to talk to my friend I turned round and Mia was right there. She's frickin' TINY! So ya it's cool, I keep seeing them everwhere!

Oh and someone I know was in the lift with a very drunken Guin Turner and 2 security holding her up last night, she was saying "I told you not to give me champagne" ahahaha! And she was in the restaurant alone earlier that night too, awww.

Must dash, there's a Q & A in a sec and then I've a photo with Leisha!!

Update

Well I'm typing this on monday actually! Plenty more to tell about saturday and sunday once I'm home, incl. Mia and Laurel's fake kiss which resulted in Mia tripping Laurel and her falling,but gracefully and she and everyone laughed, Leisha IS IN THE PROCESS OF FORMING A BAND, Mia's new book about displaced people in conjunction with the UNHCR, Laurel and Guin separately doing fucking hilarious Marina impressions, Mia and Kate and then Laurel and Leisha revealing what they wear as PJs etc......

So I'm off to the National Gallery, as soon as I'm home tonight I'll finish the sat and sun recaps, and in the not too distant future I shall be putting up a chillax cast about the weekend!!

It's That Time of Year....

....when I go to too many concerts, movies and college nights out, plan kick ass trips, and try to cram in some study and some work to pay for it all. So I've been to a concert every weekend for the last 3 weeks and this weekend coming is no different because the one and only Cork Guinness Jazz Festival is on, fuck yeah!! So I added a clip from my wonderful evening last Sunday in the company of Zero 7 with Sia and Jose Gonzalez. And below that are 2 clips of the artist I'm going to see tomorrow night, Laura Izibor (I still can't believe she's only 18!) who I saw at the Electric Picnic fest in Sept. Who knew Dubliners could be hot and talented....I guess there are always exceptions!

My Favourite Week of the Year

So ya the week just gone is my favourite of every year for one major reason and that's

THE CORK FILM FESTIVAL!!!

As per last year and the year before, the week involved me being crazy busy running round between films, at least one concert, trying to organise going to screenings around my college lectures and my work hours and of course trying to find time to eat and sleep, lol!

The film line up this year was excellent, though in my opinion not as good as last year. Last year was the 50th though so it was special, I mean it would be near impossible to top the films they had last year and of course the black tie opening night I went to too, with a modern silent movie accompanied by a grand piano, footage of Cork from the 20s restored and being shown to a public audience for the first time, some wonderful shorts and of course the spectacular VJs that are Addictive TV.

This year I went to the opening again, Kev came too. The opening film was the European Premiere of Death of A President, which all you Americans are gonna be hearing about in the news soon. Basically it's a film made docu style, supposedly set in 2012, looking back on the assassination of George Bush in Chicago in 2007 and the subsequent investigation. It has created a media storm and there is word that some American cinema chains are refusing to screen it. As a film it was good, not excellent, but it's the fact that it's getting people talking about issues arising from it that's the real power of the film.

I also saw Esma's Secret, a beautiful Serbian film. Hollywoodland with Adrien Brody, Ben Affleck, Diane Lane, that Ben Affleck actually won Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival for, I have to say (and prob never will utter these words again) that Affleck was excellent, as was the film, I really enjoyed it. A Guide to Recognising Your Saints with Robert Downey Jnr (and Rosario Dawson in a brief role too), despite some annoying technical problems with the first reel it too was excellent. Oh man oh man I saw BORAT on friday night, the half 11 show NEVER sells out, I was at that screening last year too and you could count the number of people. Not this year though, it completely sold out, the crowd was cheering and clapping at points throughout it, omg so funny, it's the Borat character form Ali G travelling to the States...it's hitting US theatres in Nov, definitely check it out! And my favourite of the week, and my last fim too was The Shutka Book of Records, (synopsis and trailer here) a documentary about the wonderfully crazy and unique Balkan Roma town of Shutka, 'where a man's wealth isn't determined by how much money he has but by how often he can reinvent himself'. I could try and describe the town but it's so unique, I would definitely fall short, let's just say there are vampire hunters, people who exercise evil genies, the annual and highly competitive Turkish cassette tape competition and soooo much more. You can't help but fall in love with the town and it's quirkiness!

There was socialising too, college wise we (Physoc) organised a mystery tour to a pub in the middle of nowhere (so in the middle of nowhere, that there was no mobile network reception in the pub!) There were nearly 50 of us, ahh what fun was had, there was a pier just outside so we went outside with our pints, and found there was reception there, hence some transatlantic tipsy texts were sent, lol. Someone tried to pull in a pontoon, the 2nd years jumped in a boat, someone brought a guitar, someone else brought a purple violin and a tin whistle, hence some jamming (everything from trad to the White Stripes) and some peeps were doing irish dancing, lol. You gotta love drunken discussions about North Korea, American politics, gay marriage, WW1, abortion, contrasting Hitler with Stalin while the nerdly 4th years argued about some physics shit. Oh and I went to Foy Vance in concert on sunday too, he's fab. Discovered him a year or so ago when he supported Joseph Arthur and got talking to him afterwards when buying his little 4 track cd from him. Now he's made an album, got a song (Homebird) on Grey's Anatomy season 2 and sunday was his first headlining gig in Ireland, and for 10 euro he was 10 times better than Damien Rice last month at EP! He even did an awesome cover of AC/DC's Back in Black!

So next up on the agenda Zero 7 and Jose Gonzalez on sunday, then the Cork Guinness Jazz Festival, Nov: L2 Convention (shoot I gotta book accommodation), free college trip to Birmingham for a convention, Maths/Phys Ball, Dec: Rodrigo y Gabriela in concert, ooo Christmas and New Years woohoo!

Electric Picnic here I come!

So as I've mentioned, probably far to many times to count, I'm heading to the Electric Picnic music festival tomorrow for the weekend. My Date with Monsieur Matisse

Firstly, I LOVE Matisse (his later work mainly from the early 40s on)

So today after much procrastination, (it was the last day of the exhibit!) I went to see an exhibition of specially prepared lithographs of Matisse's 'Painting with Scissors' pieces that appeared in La Verve, shortly after his death in '54.

So to explain, Matisse, while confined to bed after surgery in the early 40s developed a method of cutting out shapes in specifically printed coloured paper, to produce small and large scale pieces. It's his pieces using this method that I love, the simplicity of form, vibrance of the colours and I guess purity of expression and vision.

Well today, I raced into town not knowing for certain if I had made it in time to make the show before it closed (surprise suprise Skippy can be blamed for another late night/early morning) and was stopped mid-step while walking up to the exhibition space, as I spotted the Blue Nude series through the glass. I mean I knew they weren't they originals but there's something about seeing things you've treasured for sooo long, on display and well not in a book I guess, makes it more real or something, like seeing them in a new light. And particular to this exhibit was Matisse's instance on over seeing the printing to ensure the accuracy of colour, so I knew this was gonna be the closest to the original colours possible. It was surreal to be surrounded by pieces I love, truely. If I could have brought my bed, computer and tv, I'd have moved in!! I took my time, giving each piece my undivided attention, went around twice actually. It was wonderful, like being surrounded by warm and familiar beauty, but seeing it differently at the same time.

I have seen the actual 'The Snail' (above) in the Tate Modern in London but going by my reaction today to just the lithographs, I know seeing more of the real pieces will be a simply awe inducing experience/s, on a par with seeing the Sistine Chapel last year. I am certain that when I see my favourite piece, 'Icarus', I'll probably do a Bette on it, hopefully without the fainting though! Anyway just wanted to share the love and the experience, let me know what ye think.

Weekend's here!!!

**Today is brought to you by the letter G, ;), and the number zero, which is the amount of sleep I had last night, lol**

So it's been a great week, free house, awesome skippy convos til the early hours and a few til noon, music swaps with kick ass chicas, war with a determined band of bumble bees, great scenery, sleep deprivation (what's new!), Snapple and wicked awesome podcasts!

On Friday evening I took a drive to Crosshaven on the coast (bout half an hour from my house) with dad to check out the last day of Cork Week, a big annual boat/yacht race week and took these pics. The bigger yachts had already left bu the atmosphere was still great! It was fab to just chill, watch the sun setting over the water and have some good food!

Farewell Andre

Today was Agassi's last ever match at Wimbledon, I've been a fan and watched him play since as far back as I can remember, and like Steffi's before him, the retirement of such a great athlete, sportsman and fierce competitor is a sad occasion..

In a career that spanned 21 years (pretty much the length of my life thus far!) we've seen him reach the greatest highs of #1 ranking, Grand Slam, Olympic and Davis Cup success and the lows of dropping to #141 in the world, only to return once more to the top, and more Grand Slam wins!! He has also given us one of tennis' all time greatest rivalries, with Pete Sampras. I think the French Open 99 will go down as the tournament that saw 2 of tennis' all time greats (Steffi and Andre) make a triumphant return to Grand Slam victory as well as being the tournament that brought them together.

He has won eight Grand Slam singles titles, and is one of only five players to have won all four Grand Slam events. He is considered by many tennis fans to be the most complete and natural talent tennis has ever seen. Agassi is the only male player in the Open Era to have won every Grand Slam singles title, the Masters, the Davis Cup and the Olympic Gold.

Australian Open 2000 Semi-final vs Pete Sampras

Agassi down 2 sets to 1, manages to hold out and win the 4th set tie-breaker against Sampras Tennis Magazine said of the tie-breaker

"This was Sampras-Agassi for the ages."

Agassi went on to win the match and the championship.....again sleep deprivation from staying up to watch the match was sooooooooo worth it!!!

Well in my opinion Steffi and Andre should think about playing mixed doubles at Wimbledon.....how unbelievably brilliant would that be.

It would at least keep us entertained til one of their offspring takes up tennis and well, kicks ass, I mean it has to be in the genes!!!! A tennis fan can dream I guess!!!

Chillax Cast #3

So since my satanic robes are in the dry-cleaners, I had some free time today so decided to put up a cast for you lovely ladies!! Special Announcement!!

Ok, so it's my birthday on June 12th (and my mom's!) and since I podcast on a Monday I'm going to be podcasting on my birthday!! As a special treat I will be recording with my friend Kevin as mentioned in my first cast under the pseudonyme 'Picard'. I wanted to have him on a cast anyway, but he has suggested we do a drunken cast where you guys can ask us ANYTHING!!

He's getting strangely excited about the prospect of embarassing the shit out of me on the air....I, understandly, am worried since he has already started making notes!! He also wants me to show him an episode of The L Word that won't bore him to tears, so he can have an idea what all the fuss is about, so I need help from you ladies in choosing which episode (he has a short attention span so I think he'll only watch one!!) I presume he will air his opinions good and bad about the show .... actually I'm certain of it!!! He's sarcastic as hell so I'm sure he'll be entertaining though he'll probably drive me mad!!
